EU AI Act: The First Regulation on Artificial Intelligence

The European Union has taken a historic step with the introduction of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act, the first comprehensive regulation dedicated to this technology. This legislation aims to govern the use of AI within the EU, ensuring the safe, transparent, and ethical development of this innovation. The law establishes specific rules based on the risk level associated with AI systems, ranging from the prohibition of applications posing unacceptable risks to strict requirements for high-risk systems. Simultaneously, the EU supports innovation by offering companies, particularly SMEs and startups, opportunities to experiment in controlled environments. Adopted in 2024, this law will be gradually implemented, marking a major advancement in AI regulation, while protecting European citizens and boosting business competitiveness.
